About Research in the NHLS

Research within the NHLS aims to generate new knowledge, thereby building the knowledge economy and contributing meaningfully to solving the health  problems faced in South Africa, and beyond its borders.

The NHLS is uniquely positioned to accomplish this since its research generates new knowledge both within and across the various pathology sub-disciplines.

The NHLS focuses on the production of innovative research that can be translated into new diagnostics and improvement of health policies and guidelines.

Academic Affairs and Research Office

Research, Development and Training within the NHLS is supported through the Academic Affairs and Research Office (AAR), a division of the Academic Affairs, Research and Quality Assurance Department (AARQA).

The AAR focuses on the strategic alignment of the NHLS research direction, and harmonisation of systems and processes to enable effective management and administration of research and related activities.

The AAR executes its mandate by working in close partnership with research and academic committees of the NHLS, the NHLS Learning Academy, health sciences faculties, specifically schools of pathology, across South African universities.
