UPDATE ON COVID-19 REPORTING IN  SOUTH AFRICA (26 July 2022)
Since 2020, daily COVID-19 updates have been provided by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service. Starting on August 1, 2022, COVID-19 data will be accessible on a weekly basis. The reports, which include data from the previous week’s Sunday through Saturday, will be available for viewing on the NICD website starting on Wednesday of each week. The latest COVID-19 epidemiological brief, which provides context and an explanation of the data, will be distributed alongside these reports.  The reports can be accessed here every Wednesday: https://www.nicd.ac.za/diseases-a-z-index/disease-index-covid-19/surveillance-reports/.

The NICD remains committed to its surveillance activities and will continue to work on routine maintenance of the data systems.

LATEST CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN SOUTH AFRICA
Today the institute reports 521 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 4 003 502.

Today, the NDoH reports 7 deaths, and of these, 2 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 101,962 to date.

25 948 518 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below.
