The Pathology Research and Development (PathRed) Congress, a trailblazing platform that accelerates pathology progress in the South African public health sector, is set to take place tomorrow, 31 August, through 3 September 2023.It will be held at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre, O.R Tambo, in Johannesburg.

The PathReD Congress 2023 organising team, led by Dr Babatyi Malope-Kgokong, looks forward to inviting famous pathology specialists, industry leaders, academia, students, exhibitors, and healthcare professionals to this extraordinary event.

PathReD, according to Dr Malope-Kgokong, is a dynamic platform for exhibiting research, sharing ideas, and developing relationships that cross traditional borders. She emphasises that this event offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to alter the course of healthcare by using pathology’s transformational potential to create a more robust and thriving society. She eagerly anticipates inviting you to the PathReD meeting.

This hybrid event is significant in PathReD’s history because it is the organisation’s first in-person conference since the COVID-19 era. The conference will bring together a diverse mix of professionals, specialists, and researchers to explore pathology’s revolutionary potential and revolutionise public healthcare across the African continent.

Professor Komala Pillay, PathRed Scientific Chair, is grateful to the NHLS executive, organising committee, scientific committee, and discipline advisory committees for creating an extraordinary programme that incorporates future aspirations while providing a platform for current and developing talents. This highly collaborative effort resulted in comprehensive and detailed programming in an engaging hybrid style for the benefit of all.

PathReD has consistently taken the lead in advocating for pathology’s vital role in South African healthcare. The conference has always been related to national interests, delivering critical diagnostic services while integrating them into the more significant global diagnostic debate.

Dr Malope-Kgokong highlights an essential aspect of the conference: the research spotlight. “We wholeheartedly acknowledge the critical role that research plays in advancing the field of pathology.” The conference’s goal this year is to “create a solid link between current research priorities and those that will define pathology’s future”.
