
Suren Maharaj
Suren Maharaj is a Chartered Accountant and Master of Business Administration graduate with distinction, as well as a seasoned finance and governance executive with over 31 years of progressive experience in both the private and public sectors. His expertise covers corporate finance, accounting, public-sector governance, compliance, procurement management, risk management, auditing, financial turnaround strategy, and operations management.
He currently serves as Managing Director of a financial management consulting practice specialising in Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) organs of state. In a non-executive capacity, he has served on numerous boards, councils, audit and risk committees, and finance committees. He has chaired audit and risk committees across several public entities, contributing to stronger internal controls, improved governance maturity, and clean audit outcomes, including six consecutive clean audits at the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission.
Suren offers a strong combination of technical and financial expertise, governance independence, public-sector insight, and practical turnaround experience. He was recognised as a Top 20 Chief Financial Officer in South Africa in 2016 and previously served as Deputy Chairperson of the SAICA National Public Sector Committee.
