Executive Manager AARQA – Prof Elise Schapkaitz
Prof Elise Schapkaitz is the Executive of Academic Affairs, Research and Quality Assurance (AARQA). Prof Schapkaitz is a respected haematologist and academic leader with a strong background in diagnostic pathology, molecular medicine and research. Prior to her appointment, she was a senior haematologist and associate professor in the School of Pathology at the University of Witwatersrand, based at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
She holds an MBBCh, an MMed in Haematology and a PhD in Haematology. She is also a Fellow of the University of Pathologists of South Africa (FCPath Haematology).
A dedicated academic, she has mentored trainee haematologists and coordinated major clinical pathology programmes. Her research areas include thromboembolism and fostering collaborations in maternal and child health. In partnership with leading experts in the field, she has played a key role in the development of local clinical guidelines shaping best practices in haematology.
